Mono no awa re Compassion for things

spring arrives late
no one swats
the first mosquito

one rain––
             his pond
            my mosquitoes

day breaks
rows of goslings
shooing mosquitoes

have you never seen snow, mosquito?
                 falling here
                          these apple blossoms…
