Chiyo-Ni

Senryu–– haiku about people

 having gazed at the moon / I depart from this life  / with a blessing  ––Chiyo-Ni

Chiyo-ni was the first woman haijin of contemporary fame. She opened doors to others who would follow her. As I was reading her story, real life intruded. I was reading her death poem above when Katherine strolled past with a new pair of pants;

while I’m reading / Chiyo-Ni’s death poem / my wife models her new pants

The solemn meets the mundane–– and a happy ending.
