The Heirloom Bowl

hard winter rain–– / with every drip  / the heirloom bowl rings

Hermitage A Haiku Journal Volume II 2005

Fueki ryuko –changing and unchanging.

An old house whose aging roof leaks, now so badly that every rice bowl is in use catching drips, until a treasured bowl is all that is left. The world intrudes- handed down across generations, a work of art once reserved for rites of passage now pressed into service catching rain.  The moment rings out and the ripple passes, crossing seasons and years, hand into hand.
