“Small things”

Not all haiku are serious. This lighthearted piece always captures the imaginations of an audience. The endearing vignettes of characters from daily life quietly hint at larger stories at work around us.

Part of my vision has been to be able to present haiku as a temporal art form, unfolding in lines to tell its story. “Small Things” is the culmination of many aspects brought together into haiku-based storytelling. While a video, it still requires the viewer to read and engage personally with the unfolding of the stories. For the soundtrack, I played all the parts myself.

“Laughing”

Original haiku, imagery and soundtrack with Water as muse.

Sounds were sampled from a 55 gallon rain barrel and assembled in the studio.

The imagery is based on an Order-from-Chaos game, where the initial images are from random ink forms transformed with pencil into a menagerie of impromptu critters, all done in one sitting.
